'Including the obligatory booth chick pix'

It's time for a major geekfest as me and my friends geek-outed at the first Singapore Toy and Comic Convention. i'm not gonna go into how well or badly organised the thing was, hey, it's the first so I'm cutting them some slack. We weren't there for any of the freebies and I think cos of that we kinda enjoyed ourselves just looking at the stuff. I read how lots of people who were there to grab the free toys, t-shirts etc. were disappointed cos they didn't get any or they had to stand in long Qs and all that. So screw that, we just went to look at stuff.

One-hand shooting with my 'smaller' camera hence the slightly blurry shots. Lots of Star Wars pix here from the Hasbro booth. That's like the only thing we Q-ed for to get in.

It wasn't all Star Wars. The Hasbro Star Wars booth only took up bout 5% of the place. But I think it was the most organised one cos you had to Q to get in. Some random shots of the convention. Including the obligatory booth chick pix.

So did I buy anything? Yah, I only spent S$10 on a 3 Gashapon toys (2 figures and a phone strap). Even though there quite a lot of cheap figures esp yah, Star Wars again. I told myself I already had too many of those.

'The washpole patriot will be back again'

There are some things you always count on when it comes to this country and all things patriotic. One is at international beauty pagents, we'll always strike out in the first round. Another is come every National Day, the washpole patriot will be back again! I spotted him (or her) 2 years ago, and last year too. Well, here we go again.

'One week (give or take a couple more) in Sillypore 4'

I kinda like doing this again so here goes...

Saturday morning at the business district, you can tell it’s a weekend cos the area’s pretty empty. Off to the banks to update $tuff.

Went to my first wine appreciation session. A very, very informal after-dinner gathering for bout seven of us. This here is a bottle of champagne beer. Was told there aren’t many of these around here. Instead of grapes, its wheat done via the champagne process. Strong beer taste and very dense. Might be the best of both worlds kinda thing for some people.

And what I bought from the shop a day earlier. S$35 +S$39 I believe.

Dinner at Dempsey Hill’s Barracks. That’s the Apple Cider Butterscotch Cake for dessert, excellent, more than made up for the average veal.

Outside the Bandai office. So close yet so far….

A lazy weekend afternoon in the heartlands, Toa Payoh.

My new S$25 pedometer. Hmmm, after Sunday's walk, not that accurate but I guess it's quite impossible to 100% accurate.

More food! Damn fine steak at Angus House Takashimaya.

'Bringing out your heavy artillery'

Saw this a few nites ago. Man, talk about bringing out your heavy artillery. Three patrol cars and at least six cops to arrest one snatch thief, that's the guy in the shorts. Come on, you didn't really expect to use the flash, did ya?

Anyway, here’s something I thought would be interesting after reading Lunch is Served aka Gashapon Queen’s reply to my last post. Thought I’ll snap a couple of pix of some of my favourite Gashapon collection collected over the years. By the way, here's an interesting interview with the one of the Gashapon makers.

Back when I was working near Suntec City, me and my colleagues would be turning those dials like a bunch of crazed monkeys every other week during lunch, whenever there’s new stuff. There were a few of us so it’s easy to exchange any extra stuff we get. There’s of cos the Marvel superhero figures and usual (half-nekkid) anime gals, but the ones that I still take out of the box and kinda look them over are these.

An almost complete set of Tokyo JR train lines key chains with Tokyo train station names and little subway stuff on it like mini tickets and bar handlers. I got them at Suntec andthey always remind me of my Tokyo train rides. Nope, I don’t think I’ll ever use them as key chains. Also from Suntec is another almost complete set of pasta key chains. Each is actually different kinda pasta inside each pack and comes with a little plastic condiment!

These I got while in Osaka Japan last year, I think they call them ‘soundrops’. Press the middle and you’ll hear a Japanese phrase. The collections are usually based on TV shows, anime etc. In Japan, there are toys hops selling individual Gashapon stuff so it’s real easy to complete a collection by getting them here. I bought these single pieces from a shop instead of getting them from a machine. Don't think you can find them here in Singapore.

'I saw a man dressed like a woman'

My friend who teaches English to adult foreign students told us this funny but true story.

One day, a student asked him, ‘Teacher, I saw a man dressed like a woman, what do you call that?’

So my friend asked the entire class, ‘What do you all think is the proper term.’

HALF the class, in all seriousness, very straight-faced, not-joking-or-trying-to-be-funny answered, ‘Sexy boy!’

Anyway, got tagged by my friend Itsy to do another 7 meme list. Done this a couple of times already but hey, there are just so many things bout me. Hah! Now, I’m supposed to tag other people but I figured most of the folks I know who drop by have already done them. I mean, I think I have read theirs on their blogs. Anyway if there’s anyone reading this and who wants to do (another) meme, sure!

Was hypnotised.
