Cavalock and The Bluefin Tuna Fragmentation
A quick check at Meidi-Ya supermarket and look what I found, Mars Refuel chocolate drink! It's new to me so here's a little taste test review of it. The last time was I actually chomped down on a Mars bar was a lifetime ago in the army and it was like a between meals kinda snack. So here's a reunion with an old friend.
I got two taste testers for this. Out of the bottle, it looks just like any other light brown chocolate drink. Cost was just a little over S$5 for a bottle.
Taste tester 1: "Taste like Milo but with a hint of caramel"
Taste tester 2: "Not as rich and chocolaty as a Mars bar but still an OK chocolate drink"
So there you go, the Mars Refuel is alright chocolate drink and worth checking out at least once if you are really into Mars.
Now on Saturday, I was lucky to stumble onto this bluefin tuna gutting demo at Isetan supermarket. According to the stats pasted on the wall, this here is a 5-year-old male (no roe I guess!) bluefin tuna all the way from Japan.
After slicing and dicing the fish, the pieces were immediately cut, shrink-wrapped and put on sale. And it sure ain't cheap. I also overheard that a buyer has already reserved the head.
No, I didn't buy any of them. I wish I could but for that much money I would have had dinner at my favorite Japanese joint. Don't forget to leave a tick in a box below! <^;^>

Cavalock and The Pomfret Phenomenon
Here's one of all-time favorite dishes, steamed pomfret. My mom used to prepare it for me when I was a kid and now here's me with my version of it.
Really, it's like one of easiest and tastiest (healthy too!) dishes to prepare when you are home alone. Get a pomfret, rub salt all over it and add some soya sauce maybe bout two teaspoons as well as a teaspoon of onion oil to the mix.
Spread all that all over the fish, give it a couple of cuts across it. Slice some ginger and placed the whole dish in an appropriate sized steamer. Steam it at medium heat for 15 minutes.
There you go, all done! I luv the taste. Might be a little too salty for some but it's just the way I like it.
Lots of neat publications out this week. Cake Pops by Bakerella is on sale here at Kinokuniya for S$38.50, yah I know, Amazon is selling it for only US$12. If you haven't checked out her site yet, go take a look. She makes it all look so easy, was really tempted to try some of them.
Heh, here's one of my recent online hauls on my iPad. The very latest issue of Food Network Magazine. And it is on sale at Kinokuniya too for S$10 I think. I said it wasn't in one of my earlier posts, I was mistaken.
Panini and lots of them, 50 to be exact! There's also a recipe for caramel apple cake that looks really easy. <^;^>

One Week in Sillypore 6
Ooooh it's time for a special birthday edition of A Week in Sillypore. Yup, me birthday was on Wednesday and although lunch was just a table-for-one affair at the food court, the rest of the day turned out a lot better. But believe it or not, I didn't get anything for myself. :(
Anyway, while roaming Plaza Singapura mall, look what I found at the food basement. Escargots! Unfortunately I already had my lunch so that's something to look forward I guess. Prices range from S$7.50 to S$9, depending on your choice of dip.
Daiso has a new outlet at the mall too. It looks bigger, brighter and best of all, you can now rope a pig for only two bucks! I was actually looking for this when I started roasting my chicken a year ago cos you need to tie its legs together to keep the stuffings in. Like, who would have thought to find it at your $2 Daiso?
Dinner that night was at Mellban restaurant at Toa Payoh. One of the best crab joints around if you ask me. Here's their signature favorite buttercrab. Meat so fresh it just comes right off.
And of cos, you need lots of carbo courtesy of the ever popular gravy-soaking, plate-wiping man-tou buns.

... this. Tonkichi restaurant at Orchard Central. Ah yes, Orchard Central, one of the worst architecture nightmares. Let's face it, it's like a freakin' maze on steroids and the only thing good are the restaurants upstairs.
Gaming with the guys, always a weekly pleasure to look forward to. That's the Prophecy boardgame, not the best game around, kinda like a second rate Talisman boardgame.
My little collection of dice. Just some of them I got from around the world. You got your zodiac one, Japanese dishes, yes/no, skulls, Roman and Chinese numerals, who what where etc. Cool?
Food discoveries of the week. Burger King has their onion rings in the stores now, Cold Storage to be exact. No, didn't get any. Still hooked on these.
Starbucks latest offering, Creme Brulee Macchiato. Nice and creamy with them sweeeeet dark caramel drizzle on the top. Had both cold and hot, prefer the hot.
Now I always got a weak spot for limited edition stuff, all kinds from action figures to watches to now ... BEER! Here's the limited edition autumn beer from Kirin. Got it from Meidi-Ya and as expected tastes exactly like dried autumn leaves ...noooooo... I'm just kidding! Haven't had it yet but trust me, I will.

Cavalock and The Return to Royce
Had enough of all them fruity, gimmicky Japanese Kit Kats? Felt that they never really delivered on the flavors they promised? Royce might just have the sweet solution for you.
Its been ages since I bought anything from Japanese chocolaterie Royce, but there I was at their Ion outlet last weekend when I spotted their new Fruit Bar Chocolate bars. At S$17 for a box of 10, it's definitely more expensive than your average Japanese Kit Kat box.
Like it says on the box, you got your strawberry, mango, cranberry, banana and nutty puff all in a bar. Well, I could definitely taste the banana flavor, cranberry bits and nutty puffs, not much of the rest I think. It's tastier and waaaay more fruitier than the Japanese Kit Kats. Thicker and fuller too. It's like Kit Kat to the power of 10.
Kinda reminds me of them fruits and nuts granola bars except it's not as filling. A good enough snack so I say go for it.
